Daly City Real Estate
Located in the Peninsula of San Mateo County, Daly City is a Californian coastal community. The city has a population of around 100,000 making it the largest city in San Mateo County. It was named for John Daly, a businessman from Boston who moved to California and owned much of the local land. Although the area has been inhabited since 2700 BC, Daly City was only incorporated as a city in 1911, after many refugees from the San Francisco earthquake made their homes here.
This city is often called the “Gateway to the Peninsula.” There are a variety of neighborhoods, including Westlake, Serramonte, Hillside, Bayshore, Broadmoor Village and Crocker. Proud of its diversity, Daly City is home to the second largest Asian community in all of America.
Daly City real estate includes many single-family homes, along with rental units. Many were built from after the late 1940s when Westlake became known as an early example of a planned suburb. Daly City is well served for transportation, with I-280 being the main route between Santa Clara / San Mateo counties and the city of San Francisco. Public transportation is provided by San Francisco Muni lines, BART (2 stations in Daly City) and SamTrans.
For recreation, Daly City has something to appeal to everyone. From the several golf courses within the area to the home of the Grand National Rodeo! The Golden Gate National Recreation Area attracts hikers and paragliders, while those who prefer to shop can find shopping centers at Westlake and Serramonte.
